After our lake safari in Nakuru and Naivasha we were heading to Amboseli for the last days of our Africa adventure. We were a bit tired of getting up early and of long trips but Africa was the most fantastic trip for us so far. We woke up early to visit Lake Naivasha on the way to Amboseli and after 2 hours of visiting we headed for Amboseli. On the way and at the outskirts of Nairobi we could see Kibera which we couldn’t visit while we were in Nairobi. But unfortunatelly only from the road. The tension was still high enough to get into Kibera or any other slum in Nairobi.

You will see many ostriches and twisters in Amboseli

Amboseli is really far away from Nakuru it took almost 9 hours of driving to get there thanks to slow motion car driving in Kenya (however it is better to be safe). The first thing took our attention was the clouds in Amboseli. I think because of the extensive wideness of Amboseli Game Reserve the sky was also endless and one could see the wide openness in the sky full of sectional clouds.

Another thing peculiar to Amboseli is its wide swamps and many grazing wild animals in those swamps.

Apart from that seeing the Kilimanjaro  Mountain for the first time was very impressive for us because of its hugeness and its ever-white mountain top above the clouds. It is at an 5800 meters of altitude and the highest mountain of Africa and the forth highest in the world andi it is almost on the equator line. Climbing up to Kilimanjaro is not a tough challenge but because of the altitude sickness nearly half of the climbers give up on the half way. But if you have a one week or so it will be great to climb a mountain that high.

The forth highest of the world. The first in Africa

Before checking-in to our lodge we had our first game drive in Amboseli after passing the gate of Amboseli Game Reserve. It was too windy compared to Masai Mara and Nakuru but it enthralls you with its very unique environment and with its giant elephant families and other wild animals from baboons to scorpions 🙂 In the last night of Amboseli we saw a white scorpion incidentally in our lodge when i went to turn off the light just before going to bed. When we asked about it the next day we were told that we were lucky that we could see it before sleeping. In fact it seemed dizzy because of the insecticide we applied before the power-cut but it could revive and come to the bed as they try to reach a warm area. So it is very important to aplly the insecticide and repellent all the time when they are necessary. We used repellents and wristbands that repell mosquitos and insects throughout our safari trip particularly in the night time.

Amboseli is also very peaceful and calm with its wild life just like the other Game Reserves in Kenya and it has really unique features you won’t be able to see in other reserves. It has big elephant families strolling half buried in the swamps and big lion families roaming lazily throughout the day for prey.
